RESOLUTION Authorizing the Renaming of a Portion of Hays Street Between East 14^th Street and Davis Street to “Dan Niemi Way” in Honor of Officer Killed in the Line of Duty

Body

WHEREAS, Officer Dan Niemi was a member of the San Leandro Police Department who honorably served the San Leandro community following his earning the title of Police Officer in 2002; and

WHEREAS, on July 25, 2005, Officer Niemi was fatally wounded while serving in the line of duty; and

WHEREAS, in honor of the upcoming 10-year anniversary of his death, and as a means of paying tribute to his sacrifice to the community, the City Council desires to rename that section of Hays Street between East 14^th Street and Davis Street to “Dan Niemi Way”; and

WHEREAS, this proposal complies with subsections (a), (b)(2), (c), and (d) set forth in Section 1.10.110 of the San Leandro Administrative Code.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the San Leandro City Council hereby authorizes the renaming of the above-designated portion of Hays Street to “Dan Niemi Way;” and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is directed to submit this street name change to the Alameda County Clerk-Recorder’s Office for official recordation.
